Fans of Carmen San Diego, “National Treasure” and Indiana Jones unite: Baltimore has its own scavenger hunt set to take place across the city starting in June, and it’s as expansive as it gets.
The Baltimore Main Streets Program, which provides resources for local businesses, is celebrating its 25th year with a massive scavenger hunt called “The Great Chase” that will see players venture to each of the program’s nine areas of impact.
Basically, it works like this: you register for the chase online and then travel to nine of the city’s main thoroughfares. Once you’re there, you’ll venture to a specific landmark or site to scan a QR code and upload a selfie. For every selfie uploaded, you have a chance to win the grand prize — more on that in a second. In addition to these nine missions, you can boost your chances by attending the Small Business Advancement Conference at the Baltimore Convention Center on June 12.
The nine neighborhoods or streets in question are: Highlandtown, Fell’s Point, Federal Hill, Pigtown, Pennsylvania Ave., Waverly, Belair-Edison, Hamilton-Lauraville and Park Heights. The specific sites are available on the city’s website and include recognizable landmarks like the Billie Holiday Statue and Cross Street Market, among others.
Now, for the goods. The grand prize includes a two-day, one-night stay at the Sagamore Pendry Hotel in Fell’s Point, coffee and food in Fell’s Point, a dinner at another of the other listed areas, an entertainment activity at another of the nine areas, and a gift basket. That gift basket will have items from stores in each of the nine business corridors, as well as a $100 Lyft gift card and $100 gift card that can be used anywhere for anything.
The fun starts on June 1 and wraps up on June 30, meaning you have a full month to each spot. Grab a friend, charge your phone, and get ready for some fun! Even if you come up short of the grand prize, you’ll have seen more of Charm City, which is a win in and of itself.
