Mother’s in Timonium piles on the pub food.

Longtime Federal Hill favorite Mother’s Grille, popular for its purple-patio Ravens tailgate parties and its twist on pub food, recently launched the third outpost of its everything-made-from-scratch-kitchen-crossed-with-sports-bar concept, this time in Timonium. The new location has taken over a former Applebee’s (you’re welcome, Timonium), and by this summer it will have opened an outdoor patio and be serving breakfast. (You can find the second Mother’s Grille in Arnold.)

“It’s good to be in Baltimore County. We have a lot of fans out here,” says owner Dave Rather. His brother Adam, one of Rather’s business partners and chef for the new spot, adds a culinary zest to the traditional pub fare—like George Porter Jr. jambalaya and chipotle mac ‘n’ cheese. Mother’s homemade ice cream (the Rathers’ grandfather’s recipe) and beer-battered fish (prepared with craft beer and fresh fish) are house specialties. But even as the brothers establish a restaurant mini-empire, they promise not to lose the je ne sais quoi that’s brought them this far. “We’re not your typical place,” Dave says. “We have a quirkiness to us.”
