ARRR, MATEYS!

Rum drinks are Mutiny's treasure.
Rum drinks are Mutiny’s treasure.

The pirate theme is a popular one, which makes it difficult to stand out among the eye-patched, peg-legged imitators. But Mutiny Pirate Bar & Island Grille appears to have dug up the golden formula. The popular Glen Burnie bar opened in 2011 and the owners are opening another location in Ellicott City this summer. The new location will be a bit bigger and include a rooftop deck and more outdoor seating. The theme and atmosphere that have made the original such a staple, however, will stay the same.

“The initial thought was always that we want to be a place a pirate would hang out,” says Rob Wecker, one of the co-owners. “Not a Walt Disney ride.” The bar, known not only for its fresh food, scratch kitchen and raw bar, but also for its “rum passport” program, stocks more than 150 types of rum! After drinking five flights, a customer receives the passport to map their drinking adventures by country, as they sample the remaining types of rum. With a free dinner at the Captain’s Table for 10 on the line as the eventual completion prize, who among us wouldn’t want to channel her inner swashbuckler, little by little?
