Follow the Tim Burtonesque iron railing that’s shaped like a dead branch into the Edgar Allan Poe-inspired Annabel Lee Tavern in Highlandtown, gaze at Poe’s poetry calligraphied onto just about every available surface and then get your Irish on. Poe and Irish? Well, he nipped, didn’t he? Don’t expect silly green beer here. Instead, get happy with Guinness on tap and the Steak and Guinness Pie. “It differs from other Guinness pies in that instead of ground lamb, we make it with chopped filet beef tips,” says owner Kurt Bragunier.  All the other ingredients remain the same— mashed potatoes and cheese, carrots and peas— but then Bragunier throws in “a touch of brown sugar, which really makes it amazing.” For those who want something in a bottle, Bragunier recommends the Exit 13 Chocolate Stout from New Jersey. “I’d call any stout Irish in nature,” he says.  601 S.
