Corner pubs in the South Baltimore neighborhood of Locust Point are a dime a dozen. That’s why Rail 17 is such a pleasant surprise. Inside, you’ll find the standard bar-on-the-left-tables-on-the-right set-up, but the familiarity ends there. The dinner menu here is serious— and it’s seriously good. Perfectly prepared steaks done with a pale ale butter sauce or whipped horseradish cream; zesty chicken marsala over orzo; and grilled pepper-crusted salmon braised with teriyaki and honey, topped with mango salsa, are just a few of the choices. Of course, there’s also lighter fare and sandwiches, as well as cold beers and a great jukebox. But if the crowds here are an indicator, this is one corner pub that’s a cut above the rest.
