Opened in 1911, Baltimore Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station) is the eighth busiest Amtrak station in the United States. The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company photographed the station from Mount Royal Avenue and St. Paul Street in 1929. The photograph was labeled “Union Station,” even though the station had been renamed Pennsylvania Station the year before. Most notably between 1929 and now, Penn Station’s front drive has changed numerous times to ease automobile and pedestrian access. With direct lines to Washington, D.C., New York City and Boston, Penn Station gives Baltimore a ready access point for travel along the East Coast.
