In even meatier news, 8Ball Meatball, a restaurant wholly devoted to—can you guess?—recently opened its doors in Fells Point. Paul Weitz, whose family owns a handful of franchises, including BGR and Nature’s Kitchen at BWI, was inspired by New York’s Meatball Shop, which opened its first of five locations in 2010.
Itching to open his own place, the Fells Point resident settled on the former Tapas Adela space in his ‘hood. He refurbished the interior, commissioning artist Kelly Walker to paint silhouetted farm animals on one brick wall. The standard balls on the menu—classic, gluten-free chicken, spicy pork and veggie—along with a nightly special (chicken tikka masala, Greek-style lamb, spicy chorizo) can be mixed and matched with a variety of savory sauces like pesto and parmesan cream, and layered with polenta, spaghetti, risotto, broccoli or spinach. Meatball-friendly wines and craft beers abound. 814 S. Broadway in Fells Point, 443-759-5315, 8ballmeatball.com
