About Faces Day Spa and Salon, which has a handful of locations in the Baltimore area, has been sold from the longtime owners to a friend who says his goal is to continue the wellness chain’s exceptional service.
The new owner, Mackey Cronin, is a long time Maryland resident who has been in and around About Faces for years.
“I’m thrilled to be taking the helm of About Faces, a beloved Maryland institution with a stellar reputation for excellence and friendliness,” he said in a news release. “I feel very blessed to be partnering with such an amazing team of friendly and talented people. It’s such a happy environment, we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
The former owners, Helga Surratt and Patrick Brennan, are selling due to the tragic 2022 passing of their son Eric, who served as chief executive officer of the company.
“Eric’s tragic and sad passing created a void for all of us and it forced Patrick and I to change our plans for ourselves and About Faces,” Surratt said in the news release. “We’ve known Mackey a long time and I can’t wait to work with him and teach him all I know.”
Cronin and Eric Brennan went to high school together and formed a strong friendship, which is how the family came to know the businessman who last served as the managing director for RFC Capital in San Diego. He also sold a company he owned—ISG Technologies— in 2021.
Surratt and Brennan emphasized that they will still have a role in the company even though they are no longer owners.
The news release from About Faces says that the company will continue its standard of operations under new ownership, while also adding unspecified enhancements in the near future. The business has won a number of reader’s choice awards from the Jewish Times over the years, including in 2024. Cronin did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication, while Surratt declined to comment for this story.
