DR. AMANDA GALLAGHER WHETZEL is no stranger to being recognized as a top orthodontist. She won Best Orthodontist in the 2022 Baltimore Style Readers’ Choice awards.
Initially, though, Gallagher Whetzel wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon because of her involvement in sports during high school and college. But because she wanted to prioritize her work-life balance and start a family along with being a doctor, she pursued orthodontics instead.
“I love the specialty of orthodontics in dentistry because of the relationships I am able to build with my patients, the positive impact I can have on people’s lives and their confidence, as well as the ability to be a business owner and create a work-life balance that works for our family,” Gallagher Whetzel says.
Gallagher Whetzel’s office, Amanda Gallagher Orthodontics, was founded in 2013 and now operates out of four locations in Nottingham, Abingdon, Baltimore, and Columbia, with a fifth on the way. In addition to Invisalign, the company offers braces for all ages and is the only orthodontics office in the Greater Baltimore area to offer InBrace, which sit behind the teeth.
While many of Gallagher Whetzel’s patients are children and teenagers, she notes that many of her favorite patients are adults pursuing orthodontic treatment later in life.
“We have so many adults who have lived their entire lives with a smile they were not confident about or ashamed of, and seeing them during the smile transformation process, while seeing their own confidence bloom, is incredible,” she explains. “Many times, adults who seek treatment with us are also motivated to [make other] lifestyle changes during their smile journey, like improving their diet and exercise.”
While the business is named for her, Gallagher Whetzel adds that it takes a village to run Amanda Gallagher Orthodontics. She thanks her staff, including Dr. Lisa Veselovsky, Dr. Sydney Schneider, Dr. Mair Chaluparambil, and Dr. Marisa Romeo.
“I honestly cannot describe a better feeling than giving these children and
adults their confidence back, and all of the positivity it inspires,” Gallagher Whetzel says.
