Yesterday was a big day for Enoch Pratt Free Library CEO Carla Hayden. President Obama announced his intent to nominate her to be 14th Librarian of Congress. If confirmed, she would be the first woman and first African American in that post. In the immortal words of our Vice President, it’s a BFD.
Hayden has been with Enoch Pratt Free Library for more than 20 years. Previously, she was Chief Librarian at Chicago Public Library and a professor of library and information science at the University of Pittsburgh. The Board of Trustees for Enoch Pratt will look for a replacement once she is confirmed.
Hayden appears perfect for the job. She’s probably great at shushing people when necessary (no doubt a useful skill when dealing with Congress). Plus, it seems likely she’s actually read all the books she says she has, not just watched the movies like the rest of us common folk.
We wish her a speedy confirmation!
