“People call me ‘the mayor of Pikesville,’” says Jessica Normington with a laugh. As executive director of the Pikesville Chamber of  Commerce for the past seven years, the purple-haired mother of two has become a sort of face for the town and counts herself among its biggest cheerleaders.

Though she grew up in the area, Normington confesses that she never intended to stay in Pikesville.  “I tried to leave, but there’s something about it that sucks you back in,” she says. “Everybody seems to know everybody, and people that live in Pikesville like to support Pikesville. It’s a real community.”

And according to Normington, there’s now more to celebrate in the community than ever.  “We’re seeing a lot of improvements and advancements in Pikesville and the surrounding areas — Foundry Row, the Metro Center, the Mall … it’s great to see how Reisterstown Road is becoming this continuous shopping destination. Local business  is alive and well.”
