York Road now has a bona fide roadhouse. The owners of Belvedere Square’s popular Café Zen have opened Zen West, which bills itself as a “roadside cantina.” The theme here is all about the American West, and it’s chock-full of colorful retro graphics, Route 66 signs and pop culture memorabilia. The large rear dining room features a 30-foot-long wall mural of a thundering cattle drive rendered by painter Raoul Middleman. The menu carries all the typical Tex-Mex items you’d expect, as well as intriguing specialties such as chicken-fried steak, blackened catfish and shrimp and grits. A fun game: see how many of the authentic car model logos mounted on a “grille” over the glass-phalt bar you can identify. 5914 York Road, 410-323-3368
