Sunday, May 8, 2005 may have been Mothers Day, but in a charming palazzo-style garden tucked behind several connected Fells Point rowhouses, it was a day for celebrating the 60th birthday of local film and television set designer Vince Peranio. Vince’s wife, Dolores Deluxe, is known as a hostess par excellence with a dramatic sense of style, and set out to create a classic garden party to mark the occasion. Because their lush gardens would be at the peak of their early-season glory, Deluxe decided the courtyard would be the perfect spot for entertaining the 150-plus guests who dropped by to wish Vince well. Guests nibbled on finger foods such as shrimp, crab tarts and roast beef on garlic crostini, while plenty of beer, wine and champagne chilled in iced urns. A string combo, consisting of classical guitar and cello, seranaded the soiree, and lots of old friends mingled and chatted in the pleasant, balmy sunshine. In fact, it was so pleasant that many guests stayed well into the evening— always the sign of a well-thrown bash.

Never miss a story.
