Savvy tries to avoid people who ask silly questions like “Who do you think you were in a past life?” But, recently forced to answer, Savvy couldn’t help but envision herself as Catherine the Great (does anyone ever see themselves as unfabulous?). So it made perfect sense that she just had to hop one of Air Canada’s four daily nonstops to suddenly chic Toronto to see the wonderful “Catherine the Great: Art for the Empire— Masterpieces from The State Hermitage Museum, Russia,” now running at the Art Gallery of Ontario (until Jan 1, 2006, www.ago.net). This collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture, gems and decorative arts, never before seen in North America, speaks volumes about the power of culture and the culture of power. She then checked into the Four Seasons (fourseasons.com) in the heart of fabulous Yorkville, where just out her front door were cute boutiques and heavy hitters like Chanel and Prada. Both lunch and dinner at celeb haunt Sassafraz (100 Cumberland St., 416-964-2222) were beyond fabulous and dinner at cozy, chic Sotto Sotto (116A Avenue Road, 416-962-0011) is not to be missed. And Savvy found herself quite amused by Lobby (193 Bloor St. W, 416-929-7169). Yes, the décor has been done from NYC to South Beach, but you just have to love the attractive people and the cocktail-perfect kobe beef mini-burgers. While not the bargain it once was, everything in Toronto is still 18 percent off.

Never miss a story.
