“Though I’m not fashion-obsessed, I decided to take up STYLE’s challenge and try my hand at crafting a practical first-day outfit for my junior year at Friends, where I’m an editor on the school newspaper. Hampden’s boutiques and shops are stocked with clothes new and used, making shopping progressive and better for the environment. What I’m Wearing: I took a pile of cool stuff to the dressing room at the Hunting Ground, a roomy store in an old stone church that curates amazing old and new finds, but it was this T-shirt dress from Honey Punch ($24) I really couldn’t resist—I love simple, no-fuss things you can pull on and off over your head. Later, Jenny at doubledutch, which also sells new and recycled pieces, helped guide me. It was fun to try on vintage high heels and a boho hat, but they didn’t feel first day. STYLE fashion editor Jen Hausner had the brainstorm about adding this necklace, made in Baltimore by Byrdie ($46.) Also from doubledutch: A denim jacket by Kling ($91), and these old-school (but new) Danish clogs are MIA ($79). The hippie backpack—available at Cloud 9—is the Shiraleah “Riley” ($110). I hope there’s nothing against fringe in the dress code!
