After months of buzzing anticipation, Spike Gjerde’s new Woodberry Kitchen is finally open. The farm-to-table eco-friendly restaurant is a joint venture with wife Amy and Grand Cru’s Nelson Carey. Sumptuously set in a soaring double-height, exposed brick-and-beam space, the rustic feel extends from the close-set tables of the dining room to the open kitchen featuring a wood-burning oven. Hearty fare is given a witty, sophisticated twist— we love the cast-iron roast chicken with chard and grits, the cider-brined pork chops with greens and new potatoes and the bacon & egg fried rice. Throw in the freshly made potato chips with fresh homemade dip and the clever deviled eggs topped with crispy chipped ham, and we’re in heaven.
