Late last week, finalists were announced for the annual Baker Artist Awards. Among the 39 selected: soul musician Trina Coleman, poet Tracy Dimond (see her work in STYLE here), ceramics artist Trisha Kyner, contemporary dance and theater artist Naoko Maeshiba, visual artist Natan Lawsom (abstract ink drawings and paintings), choreographer Vincent Thomas and author Jen Grow.

One of the 39 will win the Mary Sawyers Imboden Prize ($50,000), another the Mary Sawyers Baker Prize ($20,000) and three will each earn a $5,000 prize. This marks a significant change from previous years when three artists won $25,000 each, and three were awarded $5,000 apiece.

This year’s winners will be announced May 12 on Maryland Public Television’s “Artworks.” All five awardees’ work will be featured in an exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art. For a complete list of the finalists, their portfolios and bios, click here.
