Caipirinha with Pomegranate

“It’s a Brazilian drink. The pomegranate livens it up a bit. It’s refreshing, easy to drink. It helps keep away the heat … I make mine strong and bold.” —James Carpenter, bartender, Brasserie Tatin

1/8 wedge lime
1 tablespoon sugar, or more to taste
1 1/2 ounces cachaca, or light rum
dash of pomegranate juice

Place the lime and sugar in the bottom of a glass. Using the handle of a heavy wooden spoon, crush and mash the lime segment into the sugar. Add the cachaca or rum, dash of pomegranate juice and stir. Add ice, stir and serve.
