Stir-Fry Broccoli with Walnuts

I see Stuart Weitzman [of Stuart Weitzman Shoes] about four times a year at shoe shows. I’ve been buying his shoes since 1985. Part of the concept of my cookbook was that I wanted to put all of the interesting people in my life together. I went to all my designers and nagged them for recipes, as well as some of the best chefs in New York, Hong Kong and Baltimore restaurants. I like to read about other people’s cooking. To read a cookbook is to taste each recipe in your head.

2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans
4 cups broccoli florets
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons red bell pepper cut in thin strips

In a large wok or skillet, heat the oil until hot. Add walnuts and stir fry for 1 minute. Add broccoli and stir fry until tender but still crisp, approximately 4 minutes. Add soy sauce and cook 1 minute more.

Serve sprinkled with red pepper strips. Serves 6.
