Hosting a Pig-Pickin'? Andy Nelson's Southern Pit Barbecue, founded by a former Baltimore Colt, specializes in that southern treat, with all of its trimmings. With barbecue made from turkey, pork or beef, plus ribs, chicken, and sides like Grandma's cole slaw and corn bread, Andy Nelson's might not be the choice for a formal affair, but surely makes for a unique event. Various deals are available, from take-out dinners ($9.95 per person) to the hog-wild mobile pit with crew deal. For $18.95 per guest, that includes an "All you Can Eat" barbecue pit and choice of side dishes, plastic and paper goods, beverages and a serving crew dressed in Andy Nelson's T-shirts. A favorite locale for rehearsal dinners, both sit-down and station-oriented, the menu features flavors from many cultures. Two selections are pan-seared filet mignon wrapped in applewood smoked bacon; and chicken sates marinated in hoisin sauce, orange juice, sesame seeds and fresh basil. For a dinner party, the per-person price (including beverages) begins at $30, and for weddings the price begins at $70. The Brass Elephant suggests booking a dinner party two months in advance of the date, and weddings six months to a year in advance.

The restaurant will cater events at private locations, and at the BMA, and generally provides one staff member, dressed in black pants, a royal blue shirt and an apron, for every 12 party guests. The cost per person ranges from $12 to $100 per guest, and labor and rental costs are additional. Call at least two months in advance of your small event, or one year in advance for a large event.
