Sizzling Summer Fido Fundraisers

PLEASE NOTE: The Canton Dog Park Fundraiser has been postponed, due to the impending hurricane.
The *NEW* date for the Canton Dog Park Fundraiser is Sunday, October 2.

Dog Days of Summer – Canton Dog Park

While the last few days have felt like anything BUT the Dog Days of Summer given our unseasonably pleasant temperatures, Canton Dog Park is hosting its 2nd Annual Dog Days of Summer Fundraising Event this Saturday, August 27, 10AM-4PM (dog park is located at the corner of Clinton & Toone Streets).

The Canton Dog Park is only one of two off-leash dog parks in the city and receives no government funding. The Dog Days of Summer event is $10 per human (dogs and children under 16 are FREE with an adult) with all proceeds going toward park renovations .  Dogs of all sizes and breeds and their owners from Baltimore City and surrounding counties are invited to enjoy a fun day together in a safe, open, but fenced-in environment in the city.

“Canton Dog Park, the 1st off-leash dog park in Baltimore City, celebrates its ninth year this September.  We continue to raise money to maintain the park and make some much needed renovations,” says Beth Christman, President, Friends of Canton Dog Park.  “Come join us as we celebrate this Saturday! “

Inside the gates of the Canton Dog Park will be an on-leash site for dog-related vendors and dog-friendly vendors - to promote, sell, and demonstrate their wares to those in attendance.  Recycled Love Rescue will bring some of their adoptable dogs in the hopes of meeting their new ‘parents.’  Beyond the gates into the Sen. Joseph Bonvegna Field, leashes can be removed for dogs and their owners to run, play, and socialize in a field measuring 110 yards by 70 yards. Please note that during this event all dogs will be gathering in the same space - there will be no separate areas for large dogs and small dogs.

FUR Removal

Let’s face it, humans were not meant to have ‘fur.’  From chin whiskers to errant eyebrows, waxing and plucking is a must ‘do!’  La Papillon Spa in Lutherville/Timonium has the cure and during the month of August (hurry – not much time left!), the spa will donate 10% of all waxing services to the MD SPCA.  Madeleine Homes, spa owner, is the devoted mother to a lab rescue, Bailey (featured in the FUROCIOUS April blog, SPLISH-SPLASH) and so knows a thing or two about shelter pet adoption.  Call 410.252.1400 to make your appointment. La Papillon is located at 9642 Deereco Road, Timonium.

Petals for Pets

Sending flowers? Need a canine-inspired centerpiece for a favorite pooch party? Look no further! Flowers & Fancies continues its Petals 4 Pets campaign sending the gift that gives twice. With each purchase of an animal-themed bouquet YOU designate one of three shelters who will receive a percentage of the final cost of the bouquet and your recipient receives a gift card indicating your generosity.  Currently, the three participating shelters are BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter), MD- SPCA and the Baltimore Humane Society who have received, collectively, nearly $2,000 since the program began last winter.  Thanks to my generous friends (Donna, Ken, Laurel and Colleen!), I was the happy recipient of a Petals 4 Pets bouquet myself – in the likeness of my darling Dugan (pictured).
