The Fashion Eccentric

Comments

I am always drawn to people that eccentric and unique. I love Lady Gaga and Madonna. I had never heard of Iris Apfel and the Marchesa Luisa Casat before reading this post. I want to know more about both of these women. I love when people that risk and do not look like anyone else on the face of this earth.

I don’t really feel I have anything new to add to all the comments already posted.  I agree with them all. Especially, Simeone, that you have been the FE in my life since our WJHU days!

I think in our Old Navy, Banana Republican world…when you DO dress up and make a unique statement of yourself with your fashion, people don’t get it. They titter and point. I find this often happens to me when I wear my dandy best outfits I’ve had tailored in Thailand. And so the pressure to dull yourself is high. So praise those who do take risks when you see them.

I’ve always thought of Baltimore as the breeding ground of eccentrics, so loose yourself!  Go all the way.  You can become a legend, on par with these bright, vibrant ladies….

I say “Let your freak flag fly!” Why not? Lisa, you made my day with this salute.

Lisa, YOU are my Fashion Eccentric role model! I always love to see what you put together. How can peacock feathers ever be wrong?

Thank you for introducing me to Luisa!  *J’adore* her smoldering punk look—a woman ahead of her time, definitely.

What’s eerie, though, is her snakes-as-jewelry instinct.  I’ve always been weirdly fascinated with (and more than a little frightened by) the slithery creatures; in fact, I have a cloisonné on the wall in my bedroom, a gift from R, which depicts a green-eyed girl with long blonde hair, and she’s wearing a snake as a necklace and a large python as a shawl.

If only my 22-lb. jet-black kitty Marley—hey, he’s almost panther-like!—would warm up to the idea of wearing a jeweled collar and learning to walk on a leash.

I cherish the fashion eccentrics in my life for the joy and fun they add to the mundane world. I mean, where else to wear your vintage two-piece bathing suit besides the SuperFresh? Who needs outerwear when you’ve got lamé Iroquois Marie Antonette underwear? Are peacock feathers ever a wrong choice?

Though I am known more for my jeans and turtlenecks, I cheer the FE’s!
