I enjoyed the article,, but had a moment of nostalgia when I ran across the reference to Hamburger Junction.  One night, some time in the early fifties, several of us stopped in to the Junction to have, naturally, hamburgers.  Nat Begun, the owner, came to our table and asked if we’d like the try something different he was considering - fried chicken.  We each took a piece and ate while he explained that a man had come in and offered him a franchise to sell the dish in the Baltimore area.  He was an odd duck, Nat said, wearing a white suit and a little beard, and claiming to have a secret recipe for spices which he would provide.  The restaurant had to buy the chicken, cook it with the spice mixture, and sell it.  We thought it tasted pretty good, but later, Nat told me that he couldn’t see any future in selling fried chicken, so he turned down the chance to own the Baltimore franchise for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
