Food for Thought

f_silbers_ribbon_cake_jf09I was just thinking of my beloved rainbow strip cake. The colored layers, the jelly, the dark chocolate. My mom would buy me a cake every so often. I would take a square and cut it into smaller squares and eat the cake, jelly and chocolate separately. I’m 50 years old and haven’t eaten the cake in decades but I still think of it often.

I loved this article; brought back so many wonderful memories of coming to Balto to visit my Grandmother and being treated to Silber’s Rainbow “Strip” and Chocolate Top Cookies.

My heart is fluttering at the mere mention of the Silber’s ribbon cake. what I would give for the butter cookies with the dollop of fudge icing! I think I have conquered Silber’s cheesecake on my own- its a matter of # of eggs to low fat cream cheese to low fat sour cream AND chilling dry out time to get the right texture. While we are at this ...I would really like a chocolate milkshake, and fries from the Read’s at Gywnn Oak Village.
Ps. My chocolate/fig paste ruglach ( rolled in raw sugar) is a perfect moment. KSV Chapel Hill, NC

I’m so fahrklempt!! We always called it rainbow cake and it was always a treat. There are imitations out there but memories always taste better than the real thing.

Try Goldman’s Bakery Ribbon. They have it with jam or choclate between the layers.

Thanks you for the trip down culinary lane. One had to eat the ribbon cake colored-layer by colored layer - never all at once.
I do say they had the best chocolate top cookies ever, I miss them though my waistline doesn’t.
