Kona Grill, a national chain with some 25 restaurant locations, has opened in the heart of the downtown business and tourism district at the corner of Pratt and Light streets. Upon entering, guests are greeted with two large, lighted, curving glass-walled aquariums containing a lively mix of colorful tropical fish. Beyond, the main dining room and bar area are done up in dark tones with sleek, retro accents and lighting fixtures, conjuring up a “Mad Men”-era vibe. On the other side of the large open bar area is an indoor/outdoor patio-style dining room, which opens onto the sidewalk outside in warm weather, and houses a cozy fire pit for cooler evenings. The menu at Kona Grill focuses on New American cuisine, fresh sushi and specialty entrées with an international flair. Look for favorites such as Macadamia Nut Chicken, Sweet-Chili Glazed Salmon, Big Island Meatloaf and thin-crust artisan pizzas and flatbreads. The bar offers lots of fun tropical concoctions, but does a nice job on classics like martinis and Manhattans, too. Open daily for lunch and dinner. 1 E. Pratt St., 410-244-8994
