Brian Lawrence Live
Tues., June 9
I’m not really a big fan of Broadway musicals— I actually like the idea of these shows way more than the experience of sitting through them. But after all the talk last year about about ‘Spring Awakening,’ I was eager to see what the buzz was about. Prior to the show I ran into Baltimore magazine editor Max Weiss and we compared notes about favorite shows that we’ve seen at the Hippodrome (and some shows where the touring company was terrible). This show, however, is awesome. The play and musical numbers are by turns funny, poignant, sad and universal. The cast is first-rate, with several of the leads straight from the Broadway cast. At intermission, I ran into several more friends, Reagan Warfield, Eddie Applefeld, Diane Macklin and Lisa Poland— all enjoying the show. At the final curtain, the audience was wild with applause for this breakthrough musical— glad it finally made it to Baltimore.
