Brian Lawrence Live
Wed., May 20
I received an invitation to Morton’s Steakhouse for their “Green Wine Experience” to benefit the American Red Cross. Events manager Judy de Joia greeted me warmly and welcomed me to the gathering. Throughout the evening, wines supplied by Charmer Sunbelt were served to demonstrate organic, sustainable and biodynamically farmed wines. I also got to chat with Julie Mercer from the Red Cross to learn more about the Central Maryland chapter. The four-course dinner was exquisite, including the appetizer of grilled lamb chops with a rosemary chambord sauce (I normally don’t care for lamb, and rarely eat it; I devoured this one, it was that good), and the filet mignon with a balsamic glaze was perfect. I had to duck out before dessert was served, to get to the VIP night at the brand-new Talara in Harbor East. My friend Ari Cohen is the GM there and had food sent to our table throughout the evening. I was joined by Tracy Kwiatkowski, Patrick Sutton and Tiffany Zappulla and we sampled dishes and cocktails (there’s a whole list of different types of mojitos) for the rest of the evening. At an adjoining table was another group including my friends Terry Hickey and Jackie Ruane, enjoying themselves. Then it was over to the Waterfront Hotel, where I wasn’t crazy about the Grateful Dead jam band, but did run into Jay Schmidt and Jason Heiser from the Charm City Devils.
