‘Where the common folk shopped’
Hochschild, Kohn & Co. was Baltimore’s first local downtown department store, majestically presiding over the storied corner of Howard and Lexington streets for some 80 years.

I remember the Toytown Parade with fond memories. My grandfather James F. Burnside organized that parade from its inception. I was in the parade twice before my grandfathers retirement. As a child I sat in window on the second floor of Hochschild, Kohn & Co watching the parade.

What great memories from my childhood in Baltimore.
When we went downtown, it was such a special occasion. The day often included shopping as well as meeting friends and family for lunch and a vaudeville show with a movie at the Hippodrome theater.
