Mid-Atlantic Media, LLC, which publishes Baltimore Jewish Times, Baltimore Style Magazine, Smart Shopper and Washington Jewish Week, has expanded its media holdings with the acquisition of the Baltimore, Md.-based Baltimore’s Child, Inc.

A regional parenting publication in the Baltimore metro area, Baltimore’s Child was sold by Joanne Giza and Sharon Keech. Craig Burke is CEO of Mid-Atlantic Media. Included in the transaction was www.BaltimoresChild.com and www.MarylandTeachersGuide.com.

“After more than 32 years, it was time for us to retire,” said Giza. “Mid-Atlantic Media made for an excellent choice for us to pass the baton.”

“Having worked hard to become the No. 1 source for information and resources for parents raising their children in the metro area, we are happy to know that Baltimore’s Child will be in good hands,” added Keech.

As part of the acquisition, Mid-Atlantic Media has retained Baltimore’s Child employees. Terms of the deal were not released.

Mid-Atlantic Media, in addition to its publications, also operates a substantial custom media portfolio with offices in Owings Mills, Md., and Rockville, Md.

While emphasizing a “business as usual” approach for the near term, Burke stressed that the acquisition fit right in with Mid-Atlantic Media’s strategic plans.

“The parenting publication industry has proven to be an effective model in cities nationwide.  We’ve observed and heard about their successes for many years. Baltimore’s Child has gained a reputation as a resource for families. They also have a loyal advertiser base. When the opportunity with Baltimore’s Child presented itself to us, we saw the potential for it to be a great fit with our core stable of publications.

“We look forward to continuing the great work established by Joanne, Sharon and their staff,” continued Burke.

Regional Media Advisors acted as advisor to Baltimore’s Child.
